Schooling the Lawyers – Supplementary Labour Scheme
Discover the expanded opportunities for employers to address labor shortages in Hong Kong through the Supplementary Labour Scheme. This scheme, primarily managed by the Labor Department with visa facilitation by the Immigration Department, allows for the importation of non-professional workers at a technician level or below. Employers can sponsor workers for a maximum of two years, aligning with the employment contract, to temporarily fill roles they’ve been unable to staff locally. While imported workers can’t bring dependents and there are no industry-specific quotas, the scheme doesn’t offer extensions; a new application is necessary for each term. The program mandates prioritizing local workers for job vacancies.
Once a year Stephen Barnes delivers a Continuing Professional Development seminar to the solicitors fraternity in Hong Kong which is accredited by the Law Society.
This series of videos encompasses that entire 2023 programme.
