Schooling the Lawyers – Working Holiday Visa
The Working Holiday Visa in Hong Kong serves as a potential stepping stone to full employment visas, especially for professionals eligible for such status. While the visa itself is not meant for establishing permanent employment or business, it has been used by some to build sizable businesses and transition to a business investment visa. The scheme is open to citizens of about 16 partner economies and allows for short-term employment, with the duration depending on nationality due to reciprocal agreements. Applicants must show financial proof and have suitable insurance, with the opportunity to work for a single employer ranging from three to twelve months, subject to nationality restrictions. The visa is valid for 12 months, and applicants must be under 30 years old. It provides lawful employability and an ID card but does not allow for sponsoring dependents or foreign domestic helpers.
Once a year Stephen Barnes delivers a Continuing Professional Development seminar to the solicitors fraternity in Hong Kong which is accredited by the Law Society.
